I will never understand how anyone could get sucked
into the Nigerian scam. But they do, and by the droves. Because you
can lose 10,000 dollars or more, we consider this a 5 skull scam. I
think the scam is stupid and laughed when I saw it. It must have the
ring of authenticity for some people because they lose their
fortunes.
Not familiar with the scam? The story goes something
like this:
You receive an e-mail from a desperate foreigner
living under a fascist regime. They need to launder some inheritance
money in order to get it out of the country. They plead for your
help. A relative has over a million dollars and they are happy to
give you a 10 percent commission if you assist them in setting up a
fictitious bank account in Nigeria. They will wire the money into
your account in order to make it seem like a normal business
transaction.
But it cannot be a small lump of money because if
they transferred a large lump sum into an account it would create
red flags for the Nigerian government. So you better send 10
thousand dollars into the account temporarily.
Don’t be stupid!
This is the craziest scam. It makes no sense. It is
ridiculous. Don’t do anything like this or any kind of any variation
of this activity in any country!
Whenever you are asked to let go of your money to
help someone, especially for some large lump of money in return- it
is very likely a scam. This goes for gifting circles, Ponzi Schemes
and the likes!
